Christabel Ekeh Can't Live Without Makeup

Christabel Ekeh

It is obvious actress-Christabel Ekeh craves for attention and if this is not one of her attempts to make headlines, then I will say; she really has to address her self-esteem pendulum and not live under heavy make-up.

There is a saying that every woman is beautiful and it's good to use makeup but one dosen't have to use is all the time. A woman has to give way to release her face from chemicals sometimes and just let her natural beauty shine but it seems like actress Christabel Ekeh disagrees with this since she just stated in an interview that she is addicted to makeup and there is nothing she can do about it. My question is, what would Christable have done if make up hadn't been created? Would she have never showed her face to anyone?. It's kinda of surprising and sad  hearing this from a celebrity since a lot of the young women look up to them and there has been the  campaign  young women embracing themselves and loving themselves just like how they were created and with a celebrity saying this, what would happen then? Christabel saying this clearly mean she has no confidence in how she was created and she has to solely rely on other means to look beautiful.

In a recent interview with Ghana’s Daily Graphic, the actress is quoted as saying;

“Yes I welcome all criticism but I wish there is something I can do about the heavy makeup, my face has become so used to it so I just can’t imagine how I will look without heavy makeup. Whether it is for set, photo shoot or to an occasion, light makeup is not my thing; I don’t feel ok if my makeup is not heavy," Chris Ekeh disclosed.

“One other thing that people tend to forget is that, I am a celebrity, so I need to look good everywhere I find myself. You may never know who you would go and find there and with paparazzi’s all over you have always to be on point and look your best and to me heavy makeup is the thing,” she said.

Of course we all love make-up as women but to make that the cornerstone of your confidence indicates that, there is some underlying low-self esteem issue which must be dealt with independently.

So she means her confidence and sense of security is in heavy make-up and without it, she has appearance and confidence issues? Unbelievable? Who says a celebrity can't look good without heavy makeup? Does being a celebrity give one the warranty to put on make up all the time.

Commenting on health implications of excessive makeup, Christabel said: “I do not use just any makeup, I have a professional who knows my skin tone and what range of products is good for my skin.I am also aware of certain implications like pimples, eczema, and all, but I believe in dealing with a professional.

“Certain people do not know their skin tone; they do not know what works for them and they go for anything they see in stores. I have a professional makeup artist I work with, and there is no way I can get it wrong.”

“I know people will disagree with me but I do heavy makeup because it makes me confident and I think it is along the same line as putting your best foot forward," she indicated.

"You know that the first thing that people normally notice when they see a woman is the face, and if it has been enhanced with skillfully applied makeup, I feel ready for the world and confident in proceeding through the day,” she added.

She also added that; “I do not use just any makeup, I have a professional who knows my skin tone and what range of products is good for my skin. I am also aware of certain implications like pimples, eczema and all, but I believe in dealing with a professional.

Christabel Ekeh was the first runner-up of Miss Malaika 2008 and got her big break in the movie industry when she featured in ‘Deadly Passions’, where she played a supporting role with John Dumelo and Yvonne Nelson. She is also the face of Star Assurance.

Born to a Ghanaian mother and Nigerian father, Christabel plans on being the best in the Ghanaian movie industry and beyond. She has movies like College Girls, Peep, Before Noon, Sugar Boy and Deadly Passions to her credit and she has starred in several Shelly Frimpong Manso movies.

I'm not criticizing Christabel for her addiction to make up but she has to stop spreading negative messages that make up makes a woman confident. Yes sometimes it does but saying you depend solely on it is wrong and it's sending a wrong message to someone out there. A woman can be beautiful and confident with or without make up.One of the jobs for being a celebrity is to have a positive image and influence on the youth that look up to you. You can't do whatever you want just because you're a celebrity.

 Whatever it is make-up is not the answer to one's image and confidence.
